"Get the Point" - Easyriders November 2011![]() Kirk Taylor builds street-worthy motorized art from his Novato, California shop, Custom Design Studios. Martial artist, real estate specialist, and confirmed bachelor Joe Murphy commissioned Kirk for this project he calls "Get the Point" Joe wanted plenty of sharp, pointed angles and edges on his custom bike, and during the build process it sometimes seemed to Kirk like a theme that had the potential to go wrong. ![]() With a little tug in the right direction, everything came out right. Starting with a hidden-shock Paul Yaffe frame, gas tank, and oil tank, Kirk got right to work by fashioning handmade fenders. You'll notice a Headwinds headlight, pullback handlebars, and Performance Machine controls up front, a custom seat by Don Clancy, and classy PM wheels and brakes. From the sparkle of the diamond-cut heads on the 100-inch RevTech motor and Courtney Shamach's classy pinstripes to Kirk's artful design, this pointy pro-street scoot is no trailer queen. ![]() You can't fault Kirk for riding this perfect putt more than Joe has. Joe's favorite stretch of road lies between his bachelor pad on Dynamite Road and the nearest strip club. When Kirk delivered the bike during Arizona Bike Week, he put over 500 milks on it over a fourday weekend and tells everyone how comfortable it is, 240 tire and all. ![]() During one day trip, Kirk got caught in a major thunderstorm at Westwood and nearly drowned trying to swim the bike back on one lung with a fouled plug. By the time Kirk handed the keys over to Joe, all concerned got the point of this cool custom: If you can't ride 'em, they ain't worth shit. -Cheese ![]() ![]()
